Jean Todt, former Ferrari boss and close friend of Michael Schumacher, has shared a heartfelt update on the F1 legend’s health. Schumacher, now 56, suffered life-changing injuries in a skiing accident back in 2013, and since then, his family has kept details of his condition private.
In a recent interview with La Repubblica, Todt explained that he still visits Michael regularly. “I see him often, and we share moments of affection. Our bond goes beyond our work together in Formula 1; it’s personal, and I cherish it deeply,” he said.
Despite the changes in Michael’s life since the accident, Todt continues to see his friend, even though he acknowledges Michael isn’t the same person he once was. “He’s not the Michael we knew in F1,” Todt admitted. “But he’s still here, surrounded by his family’s love and care. His life is different now, but I feel lucky to still be a part of it.”
Todt also reflected on the fact that the Schumacher family has chosen to keep things private. “They’ve decided not to speak publicly about his health, and I respect that,” he said. “His family is doing an amazing job protecting him. I just feel privileged to spend time with him, in whatever way I can.”
The family’s lawyer, Felix Damm, added back in October 2023 that no official health report would be released about Michael, emphasizing the family’s commitment to protecting his privacy. “The focus has always been on keeping things private, and that’s a decision we stand by,” Damm explained.
It’s clear that Schumacher’s family continues to care for him in the most loving way possible, and Todt’s words show how much he values their enduring friendship, even if it’s not the same as it once was.
